What is BREEAM?<\/p>

BREEAM is a method for assessing buildings.<\/p>

It sets the standard for best practices in sustainable design and has become a globally recognized measure used to assess the environmental performance of buildings.<\/p>

BRE (\u2018BREEAM\u2019) is a comprehensive assessment of the quality and sustainability of a new building. There are five ratings that can be achieved, the most stringent and highest rating being \u2018Outstanding\u2019. The requirement to have a building assessed using the BREEAM method and the required rating to be achieved is often a condition of planning permission for a development.<\/p>

BREEAM assesses nine key criteria in buildings: Management, Energy, Health and Wellbeing, Transport, Water, Materials, Waste, Land Use and Environment and Pollution. Points are awarded within each criterion, with the accumulated total determining the final BREEAM score.<\/p>

The BREEAM assessment has three stages:<\/p>
